Equine Specific First Aid
This course is designed for Horse riders or anyone working with horses in the event of an accident or sudden illness, and fulfils the HSE requirements for first aid for appointed persons. The course focuses on the particular accidents and injuries that those who ride horses may encounter and looks at the particular problems you may face providing basic first aid in a rural or remote locations. It is suitable for stable hands, Outriders and Riding instructors. However we would recommend that Riding instructors or those that work full time with horses go onto complete a 3-day HSE approved first aid course.(See 3 day at work course).
This course will cover.
- Managing an incident in remote/ non remote locations
- Causes and treatment for an unconscious causality
- Causes and treatment for a casualty who is not breathing CPR
- Safe removal of Head protection
- Control of Bleeding
- Exposure
- Fractures
- Sprain and Strains
- Areas of specific concern
- Reporting of incidents/accidents
- First aid equipment
There is no formal exam at the end of this course all students are continually assessed by the tutor and all students will be awarded a certificate on successfully completing the course to required standard.
First Aid Consultancy & Training Services will provide a manual free of charge along with this course.
The Certificate issued is valid for a period of 3 (three) years however Health and Safety do strongly recommend that training at least a half day is taken every year.
